Six teens, some of whom had already served time in juvie, got a dose of grown-up prison life at the Lieber Correctional Facility in South Carolina. The inmate-run "Operation Behind Bars" program put the teens in tiny cells and introduced them to "Lock-Up," the prison within a prison for the worst inmates.
Shane
At the Conclusion of Production:
Though he hasn't kicked his pot habit, Shane has stopped drinking and has stayed out of trouble with the law.
Latest Update: December 2011:
According to his sister, Shane was recently expelled from his high school for being in possession of marijuana while on school grounds. He had to appear at court for his possession charge – a misdemeanor. Shane still continues to smoke pot daily.
Harold
At the Conclusion of Production:
Determined to provide for his son, Harold continues his job search. He visits his own father on weekends.
Latest Update: December 2011:
Harold is 17 years old and a senior in high school. His grades are average, and he does not participate in sports or school activities. Harold is living with his mother until he can afford his own apartment.
He cut marijuana completely out of his life and is working part time at a landscaping company. Harold still maintains a relationship with Spelaisha, his baby's mother, and sees his son on the weekends. Once he graduates high school in the spring 2012, Harold plans to attend a trade school where he hopes to become a certified welder.
Tyler
At the Conclusion of Production:
According to his mother, Tyler still smokes pot, is disrespectful and cares little about school.
Latest Update: December 2011:
According to Tyler's counselor, "Tyler is thriving." Tyler is currently attending a military academy. Tyler is no longer smoking marijuana, and the structured environment at the military academy has helped Tyler learn how to control his temper. He recently earned the rank of Sergeant Standard and is responsible for watching over a company of lower ranking students.
Katie
At the Conclusion of Production:
Katie no longer drinks, has a part-time job, but still struggles to quit cigarettes and to keep her room clean.
Latest Update: December 2011:
According to Katie's counselor, Katie is doing well in school. Rather than hanging out with the wrong crowd at school, she now chooses friends who care about her. When she's not in school, Katie spends her time working at a resort hotel near where she lives. Katie is still very close friends with Logan. According to Logan, Katie plans to move into Logan's apartment in the next couple of weeks.
Logan
At the Conclusion of Production:
Logan was expelled for causing a disturbance. She is now taking online classes to graduate and has stopped partying.
Latest Update: December 2011:
Logan was one week away from turning 17 years old when she found out she was pregnant. In August, Logan gave birth to a healthy baby boy. The baby's father helps by providing some financial support, but he and Logan are no longer together.
Logan earned her G.E.D. at her local community college and is currently working two jobs to support herself and her baby. She quit smoking marijuana the day she learned of her pregnancy and has been clean ever since.
Logan lives at her new apartment, which she pays for herself. Katie is still very close friends with Logan. Katie and Logan have agreed to be roommates, and Katie plans to move into Logan's apartment in the next couple of weeks.
