Larry Flynt and his lawyer were shot as they returned to a Georgia courthouse where the Hustler publisher was facing obscenity charges. White supremacist Joseph Paul Franklin, who admitted targeting Flynt for featuring an interracial couple in the pornographic magazine, was later convicted of multiple murders and executed in 2013. Flynt was paralyzed from the waist down and used a gold-plated wheelchair for the rest of his life; his lawyer spent a month in the hospital.
