Two amateur thieves broke into New York City’s American Museum of Natural History armed with rope, a glass cutter, duct tape and a squeegee that they used to scoop up a cache of precious jewels, including a golf ball-sized sapphire known as the Star of India. (It turns out the batteries for the display case’s burglar alarm had burned out.) The sapphire, along with many of the other gems, were later recovered in the locker of a Miami bus terminal after the arrest of the two thieves.
