Palm Springs, CA
Aired on Apr 19, 2008Tim and Andy were using their four bedroom downtown Palm Springs home as a bed a breakfast for the past few years. But once they decided to sell, they converted it back into a house. What wasn’t converted was the kitschy early 60’s theme they had going on… which included unfortunate colors, lots of antiques, and lots of clutter! Fortunately for Roger Hazard, Tim and Andy are willing participants in his staging process, though Andy does have a lot of trouble letting go of some of his prized possessions. Even his kitchen utensils have sentimental meaning to him! Host Tanya Memme and Design Assistant Chad have a plan: keep Andy distracted in the kitchen while they pack up his stuff!
Palm Springs, CA
Aired on Apr 26, 2008Maria and Joe live in a private golf course community. Their back yard is literally a putting green… it’s a golfers dream! Other homes in this neighborhood are beautifully decorated and if you compare them to Maria and Joe’s place…well, there is no comparison because their house is white and beige which equals boring to potential home buyers. This place will prove to be a challenge for design expert Roger Hazard, as well as home owners Maria and Joe. Change is hard but their dated furniture and lifeless walls need to be energized if they plan selling any time soon. Rogers’ plan is questioned, but he sticks to his guns. Will his plan make this home attractive to more then just golf enthusiasts? Tanya Memme hosts.
Oregon City, OR
Aired on Dec 11, 2005Don and Jenny have lived in their rustic three bedroom ranch style home near Portland, Oregon for almost 15 years. They’ve got four dogs, a love of motorcycles, and big dreams to own a horse ranch of their own. But first, they’ve got to interest a buyer in their current home. Sure, it’s located on a quite cul-de-sac, has a large back yard, and has great amenities like a fireplace, and it’s priced just right for the neighborhood, but it’s looking just a little bit dog-eared. Can this explain why it’s been on the market for an entire year? Host Tanya Memme is there to guide them through the tough process of learning what people really think of their place. Then, it’s time for Roger Hazard to the rescue! His first prescription: bring some light into this cave! The ugly old curtains in the living room are history. Simple white window treatments give the room an airier feel, and we peel up all the dog rugs and do some steam-cleaning to unveil a fresh, odor-free carpet underneath.
Orange County, CA
Aired on May 10, 2008Gigi’s house in one of the most desirable areas of Orange County, but she isn’t having any luck selling…and it doesn’t take the Sell This House team long to see why. She’s got so much furniture packed into such a tiny space, potential buyers only think about how crowded their furniture will feel. And that’s just on the first floor! The second floor is so outdated; it looks like a completely different house than downstairs. It’s Designer Roger Hazard to the rescue! He’s got a plan to bring the whole house together through color and furniture arrangement. Tanya Memme hosts.
Boston, MA
Aired on Jan 22, 2006Angela Victoria’s classic three-bedroom town home is nestled in quaint Brookline, a family friendly area on the outskirts of Boston. She’s lived here for 30 years but she dreams of buying a little place by the ocean. First she’ll have to sell her current place. While the architecture is stunning, clutter and darkness are turning open house guests away. Years of accumulated stuff makes the place seem cramped. Folks are also turned off by the old and dingy paint on the walls. Angela Victoria has so much stuff; the first order of business is to hire some movers to clear this place out. Then it’s on to painting, and Roger chooses variations on lavender as the unifying theme. And by using a few choice pieces of furniture and some tasteful accessories, Angela Victoria’s house is finally ready to sell. Tanya Memme hosts.
Miami, FL
Aired on May 17, 2008Newlyweds Joel and Dana are ready to start a family but their condo isn’t the place they want to do it. They’re trying to sell it so they can buy a bigger house, but so far nobody is interested…and they’re not sure why. After holding a hidden camera open house we get some answers to why it’s not selling. Designer Roger Hazard’s plan is to update their “dorm room designed” place and make it eye catching to everyone that walks in. But his plan involves removing their hot tub! What will Dana and Joel say to that? Tanya Memme hosts.
Amesbury, MA
Aired on Jan 29, 2006A large and historic Victorian-style home in a quiet Massachusetts neighborhood. It’s got just about everything you could want, but the commute to Boston is just too far, so it’s time for Chris and Merrill to move closer in. This charmer has been on the market for over two months, with little interest from potential buyers. What’s the problem? Could it be the weird wallpaper in the living room, the cat smell, or the dirty carpets? Or perhaps the bright orange walls in the entry. First, we de-clutter the entire house, removing books, toys and excess furniture from all the rooms. We pull up the dirty beige carpet to reveal pristine hardwood floors. The strange wallpaper in the living room is painted over with a suede-textured color called classic coffee. Now that the inside of this home matches the classic feel of the historic exterior, will potential homebuyers be able to resist? Tanya Memme hosts.
Miami Beach, FL
Aired on May 31, 2008Randall bought his Miami Beach condo because of its charm and reflection of the nearby Historical Art Deco District. It’s within walking distance to the most happening place in Miami, but potential buyers can’t run away fast enough. Its Art Deco dated–to put it nicely. And with tons of new construction popping up all over the place, he needs to find a way for his old condo to compete. Designer Roger Hazard has a plan to preserve the Art Deco charm while making the condo comfortable for a modern owner through color and accessories. Tanya Memme Hosts.
Sacramento, CA
Aired on Mar 12, 2006Joe and Tiffany and their two young children live on a quiet cul-de-sac in a quiet neighborhood just outside of Sacramento. But their three bedroom home is becoming just too crowded for this growing family, so it’s time to upgrade. We let our open house guests loose in here, and they quickly pronounce Joe and Tiffany’s house to be over-cluttered and dark. The dining room has been taken over by craft supplies and exercise equipment. Our design guru, Roger Hazard jumps in right away, to turn this place around, and host Tanya Memme’s on hand to rally the troops with a cheer. Are Joe and Tiffany ready to part with their cherished things so they can get their place sold? Clutter is banished, the dark accent wall in the living room is replaced with a cheerful light green, the dining room is returned to its original purpose, and the bedroom gets brightened up with some light window treatments. Will Roger’s changes be enough to convince a potential homebuyer to bite?
Wrightsville Beach, NC
Aired on Jun 07, 2008When one first enters Greg and Amy’s house it’s akin to stepping into the jungle! Their overgrown solarium room is anything but relaxing–try dark and dirty! The living room is painted an unappealing bright green that, while ugly enough on its own, really becomes a complete eyesore among the dark wood trim. Then there’s the master bath which features floor to ceiling checkered tile! Designer Roger Hazard really has his work cut out for him! He has the crew digging up plants, painting three rooms, and trying to come up with a fix in that bathroom! Tanya Memme hosts.
Elverta, CA
Aired on Mar 19, 2006Frank and Kimberly have lived in their three bedroom rambler on the outskirts of Sacramento for ten years now, but they’re moving out of the area to be a little closer to the rest of their family. Buyers are snatching up other homes in the neighborhood, but there home is suffering from a case of the blahs, it just can’t seem to attract a buyer that will appreciate its spare design. Roger has a plan to break up the vast living room space and use warm colors to make it cozy. He has a few tricks up his sleeve to give the dining room a caf -like feel, and banishes the jungle theme in the bedroom in favor of something a little more romantic. Will these small but significant steps bring in the offers? Tanya Memme hosts.
Wilmington, NC
Aired on Jun 14, 2008Cheryl owns an antique and collectables store, and she definitely brought work home with her. She owns a new construction home, but has it filled wall to wall with antiques. In fact there are so many antiques and trinkets; no one can even see all the beautiful architectural details. Designer Roger Hazard has a plan to make this house fly off the market. We’re drawing eyes away from Cheryl’s stuff and towards the beautiful hardwood floors, Wainscoting, and surprise, surprise…this house actually does have some square footage–it was just hiding underneath, behind, and next to all of Cheryl’s collections. It’s a lesson in architectural highlighting you won’t want to miss. Tanya Memme hosts.
Santa Monica, CA
Aired on Mar 26, 2006Greg’s tenants are moving out of his Santa Monica home, and he thinks it’s time to sell the place. Sure, it’s a little run down, but property values around here regularly run into the low millions, so it’s not surprising that even with a dark interior and some pet odor issues, this place is priced at $850,000. But potential homeowners aren’t going to bite unless there’s a carrot at the end of the stick. The living room is dark and cramped with outdated furniture, and the master bedroom is overflowing with furniture. Roger has a plan to give the living room a fresh new tropical-beach feel, and by removing the bulky furniture, it opens the space right up. Will removing the smelly old carpet reveal usable hardwoods beneath? Some de-cluttering in the boys’ bedroom and some sweet new bunk beds are just the thing to spruce this room up. Will all the changes help Greg see a return on his investment? Tanya Memme hosts.
Los Angeles, CA
Aired on Apr 23, 2006Steve and Susan Wasser, their son Chris and two dogs live in a charming Spanish style villa just minutes from the heart of Hollywood. They’re hankering to live closer to the beach, but first, they’ve got to find a buyer! In the hot L.A. market, their home should be a cinch to sell. But it’s not the case. Could it be that their growling dogs aren’t giving potential buyers a warm welcome? Or is it the dark and cavernous living room that’s turning folks away? Or the not-so-fresh scent coming from son Chris’ bedroom? We tackle old wallpaper, re-invent Chris’ room, paint, replace pleather drapes, the list goes on and on! Will we have enough time to finish it all before the open house guests arrive? And will Roger’s changes be enough to turn potential homebuyers’ heads? Tanya Memme hosts.
Tucson, AZ
Aired on Jun 21, 2008Cathleen lives in the desert, and her house reflects that. Hope for a quick sale is quickly drying up. In fact Cathleen’s about as desperate for offers as the desert is for water. It’s not hard to see why.
Pine Bluff, WY
Aired on Aug 02, 2008Jon and Ashley live on a horse ranch with their two small kids in the tiny town of Pine Bluffs. They think it’s a great place to raise some little cowpoke, but potential buyers disagree! It might have something to do with their home d cor… rodeo memorabilia decorate the already crowded living room and the basement is just used for storage. Designer Roger Hazard, with a little help from Pine Buffs High School Agriculture Club turns this place from old barn to modern chic. Tanya Memme hosts.
Miami, FL
Aired on Apr 16, 2006Arthur and J.C.’s place has been on the market way too long. Their beautiful and classic bungalow features to-die-for hardwood floors and a living room fit for a king. However their personal style tends toward a heavy, Roman theme, and their home is so chock full of collectibles from all their travels that there’s hardly room for open house guests to even turn around. Their solution? Move to a larger home with more space to accommodate their passion for art. But first, they’ve got to find a buyer for this one. Time to bring in our expert designer Roger Hazard to restage the place so they can finally get it sold. Roger discovers that the den is really a hidden bedroom, a fact that should please space-conscious buyers, but he’s got to find a creative way to draw attention to this overlooked detail. Will a potential homeowner bite when this Roman palace gets turned back into a normal residence? Tanya Memme hosts.
Cheyenne, WY
Aired on Aug 09, 2008The Tormey family has lived all over the country during Bill’s military career. With retirement on the horizon, the family has decided to call Cheyenne home. The problem is their four bedroom split level isn’t winning over buyers. Not even with it’s “pink” kitchen, patriotic living room, and spare bathroom that rivals most truck stops! Designer Roger Hazard needs to neutralize the crazy colors in this place. An easy enough task… the hard part will be re-doing the bathroom. Roger and host Tanya Memme take a trip to Home Depot to purchase a new sink and vanity. Good thing Bill knows a thing or two about plumbing!
San Diego, CA
Aired on May 21, 2006Dave Alstrand’s a retired firefighter who loves to play pool. His wife Nancy loves her dog and birds. They designed this custom home in the hills to live out their retirement. But they’ve come to realize it’s just too big for two people. They’ve got to sell this place, and all the personalized features that meant so much to them when they built the place may be a liability in selling it! Roger quickly banishes Dave’s beloved billiards tables, much to Dave’s chagrin. He wants to create a comfortable T.V. room in its place. Then it’s on to the other rooms, where some fresh paint will go a long way to sprucing things up. And turning the living room into a combination dining and sitting area should make this space much more appealing. Tanya Memme hosts.
Ocean Park, ME
Aired on Aug 16, 2008JoEllen has been dreaming of living in her beach bungalow in Ocean Park since she was eight years old. She grew up right behind the place! While the location (one block from the beach) is ideal… the 400 square foot size is not. It doesn’t help that JoEllen has this place packed with furniture and clutter! Designer Roger Hazard has plans to turn this into a proper beach place. First step, pack up almost everything. Step two and three, clean and paint! Roger needs to make the most of this little cottage and clever staging is the trick. Tanya Memme hosts.
Miami, FL
Aired on Apr 30, 2006Surrounded by palm trees and sunshine, the Forgerons’ Miami home seems nice from the outside. But it’s the inside where the problems begin! Their large family has lived in Miami for 11 years but they’ve got to move to a more affordable house, so that’s where we come in. Time to pack up all the clutter and hide the mess so they can finally get it sold. We re-arranged the furniture and re-staged the room, accenting the remaining furniture with some throw pillows. Paint was the order of the day in the bedroom as well, and we transformed it from blah to beautiful in a matter of minutes as well. Flowing white window treatments help show tings off even more. We turned the grimy bathroom back into a mini-spa with some candles, flowers and new shower curtains. But will all these great transformations convince a picky homebuyer to snatch this place up? Tanya Memme hosts.
Saco, ME
Aired on Aug 23, 2008Leslie and Patrick live in a loft in a converted shoe factory. While it’s a cool space, it’s unfortunately one of three lofts currently for sale in the building. The Otto’s happens to be the smallest of the batch as well! Not helping the situation is their collection of eclectic furniture and art from their travels. Designer Roger Hazard wants to make the space appear larger and brighter. Eliminating a lot of furniture is in high order! Roger gets creative by using a large piece of plywood as a formal dining table and rolls of burlap as window treatments, a table cloth, and a bed skirt! Tanya Memme hosts.
Savannah, GA
Aired on Jun 04, 2006Billie raised her family in this cute three bedroom home with a huge yard. Now that the kids have left the house, she’s downsizing, but it’s not an easy sell. Roger comes to the rescue and adds new color and space to the place.
San Diego, CA
Aired on Jun 11, 2006Josh and Michelle’s peaceful two-bedroom condo is tucked away in a quiet complex. It’s got hardwood floors, a swimming pool right outside the door, and it’s just a few minutes from downtown San Diego. With a playful dog and a baby on the way, they’re going to need more space, so why doesn’t anyone want to call this place home? Well, for starters, this unit isn’t exactly getting as much of that famous San Diego sunshine as it could be. And then there’s the attack screen door, pet odor, outdated walls, too much furniture and clutter. First thing to go, the oversized fish tank, that hadn’t seen any fish for a while! Roger’s got a beach theme in mind to counteract the dungeon feel. Soon, the walls get fresh coats of lively blue paint, with a soothing sandy color below the chair rail in the living room, and the furniture is pared down to a manageable assortment. Tanya Memme hosts.
Derry, NH
Aired on Sep 13, 2008Mike and Danielle are engaged and want to start their life together in a bigger house. Their current house is nicknamed “man cave” and for good reason. Go into the living room and you’d think you were in a bar… it’s covered with sports memorabilia from wall to wall… Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, New England Patriots… you name it. Oh and did we mention the walls are painted green and there’s a pool table right in the middle of the room! The family room is painted red and cluttered with a TV that doesn’t work, black leather recliners, personal photos, and even a live bird. Designer Roger Hazard has plans to neutralize the entire house with a warm beige paint color–just wait until you see what Roger has planned for Mike’s pool table! Tanya Memme hosts.
Savannah, GA
Aired on Jun 25, 2006Phoebe and Margaret’s country home is set in a gorgeous suburb of historic Savannah. While it seems like a dream locale, lack of color and personality, and one hideous wallpaper choice are to blame for unhappy home hunters, not to mention cluttered spaces and “grandma” looking d cor. Design consultant Roger Hazard and host Tanya Memme certainly have some work cut out for them! Once Phoebe and Margaret’s belongings are tenderly taken care of, it’s time to add some much needed color; though it takes some time for the homeowners to warm up to the avocado green Roger chooses for the bathroom! New paint is also in store for the bedroom and the living room. Tanya gives us a lesson in making a bed – to hotel standards and we see how simply re-arranging furniture and adding colorful accents can make any room more interesting. The house makes a complete turnaround and is sure to be a hit with the returning open house guests.
