Newlyweds Joel and Dana are ready to start a family but their condo isn’t the place they want to do it. They’re trying to sell it so they can buy a bigger house, but so far nobody is interested…and they’re not sure why. After holding a hidden camera open house we get some answers to why it’s not selling. Designer Roger Hazard’s plan is to update their “dorm room designed” place and make it eye catching to everyone that walks in. But his plan involves removing their hot tub! A large and historic Victorian-style home in a quiet Massachusetts neighborhood. It’s got just about everything you could want, but the commute to Boston is just too far, so it’s time for Chris and Merrill to move closer in. This charmer has been on the market for over two months, with little interest from potential buyers. What’s the problem? Could it be the weird wallpaper in the living room, the cat smell, or the dirty carpets? Or perhaps the bright orange walls in the entry. First, we de-clutter the entire house, removing books, toys and excess furniture from all the rooms. We pull up the dirty beige carpet to reveal pristine hardwood floors. The strange wallpaper in the living room is painted over with a suede-textured color called classic coffee. Randall bought his Miami Beach condo because of its charm and reflection of the nearby Historical Art Deco District. It’s within walking distance to the most happening place in Miami, but potential buyers can’t run away fast enough. Its Art Deco dated–to put it nicely. And with tons of new construction popping up all over the place, he needs to find a way for his old condo to compete. Joe and Tiffany and their two young children live on a quiet cul-de-sac in a quiet neighborhood just outside of Sacramento. But their three bedroom home is becoming just too crowded for this growing family, so it’s time to upgrade. We let our open house guests loose in here, and they quickly pronounce Joe and Tiffany’s house to be over-cluttered and dark. The dining room has been taken over by craft supplies and exercise equipment. Our design guru, Roger Hazard jumps in right away, to turn this place around, and host Tanya Memme’s on hand to rally the troops with a cheer. Are Joe and Tiffany ready to part with their cherished things so they can get their place sold? Clutter is banished, the dark accent wall in the living room is replaced with a cheerful light green, the dining room is returned to its original purpose, and the bedroom gets brightened up with some light window treatments. Will Roger’s changes be enough to convince a potential homebuyer to bite?

When one first enters Greg and Amy’s house it’s akin to stepping into the jungle! Their overgrown solarium room is anything but relaxing–try dark and dirty! The living room is painted an unappealing bright green that, while ugly enough on its own, really becomes a complete eyesore among the dark wood trim. Then there’s the master bath which features floor to ceiling checkered tile! Designer Roger Hazard really has his work cut out for him! Frank and Kimberly have lived in their three bedroom rambler on the outskirts of Sacramento for ten years now, but they’re moving out of the area to be a little closer to the rest of their family. Buyers are snatching up other homes in the neighborhood, but there home is suffering from a case of the blahs, it just can’t seem to attract a buyer that will appreciate its spare design. Roger has a plan to break up the vast living room space and use warm colors to make it cozy. He has a few tricks up his sleeve to give the dining room a caf -like feel, and banishes the jungle theme in the bedroom in favor of something a little more romantic. Cheryl owns an antique and collectables store, and she definitely brought work home with her. She owns a new construction home, but has it filled wall to wall with antiques. In fact there are so many antiques and trinkets; no one can even see all the beautiful architectural details. Designer Roger Hazard has a plan to make this house fly off the market. We’re drawing eyes away from Cheryl’s stuff and towards the beautiful hardwood floors, Wainscoting, and surprise, surprise…this house actually does have some square footage–it was just hiding underneath, behind, and next to all of Cheryl’s collections. Greg’s tenants are moving out of his Santa Monica home, and he thinks it’s time to sell the place. Sure, it’s a little run down, but property values around here regularly run into the low millions, so it’s not surprising that even with a dark interior and some pet odor issues, this place is priced at $850,000. But potential homeowners aren’t going to bite unless there’s a carrot at the end of the stick. The living room is dark and cramped with outdated furniture, and the master bedroom is overflowing with furniture. Roger has a plan to give the living room a fresh new tropical-beach feel, and by removing the bulky furniture, it opens the space right up. The Tormey family has lived all over the country during Bill’s military career. With retirement on the horizon, the family has decided to call Cheyenne home. The problem is their four bedroom split level isn’t winning over buyers. Not even with it’s “pink” kitchen, patriotic living room, and spare bathroom that rivals most truck stops! Designer Roger Hazard needs to neutralize the crazy colors in this place. An easy enough task… the hard part will be re-doing the bathroom. Roger and host Tanya Memme take a trip to Home Depot to purchase a new sink and vanity. Good thing Bill knows a thing or two about plumbing!

Dave Alstrand’s a retired firefighter who loves to play pool. His wife Nancy loves her dog and birds. They designed this custom home in the hills to live out their retirement. But they’ve come to realize it’s just too big for two people. They’ve got to sell this place, and all the personalized features that meant so much to them when they built the place may be a liability in selling it! Roger quickly banishes Dave’s beloved billiards tables, much to Dave’s chagrin. He wants to create a comfortable T.V. room in its place. Then it’s on to the other rooms, where some fresh paint will go a long way to sprucing things up. JoEllen has been dreaming of living in her beach bungalow in Ocean Park since she was eight years old. She grew up right behind the place! While the location (one block from the beach) is ideal… the 400 square foot size is not. It doesn’t help that JoEllen has this place packed with furniture and clutter! Designer Roger Hazard has plans to turn this into a proper beach place. First step, pack up almost everything. Step two and three, clean and paint! Surrounded by palm trees and sunshine, the Forgerons’ Miami home seems nice from the outside. But it’s the inside where the problems begin! Their large family has lived in Miami for 11 years but they’ve got to move to a more affordable house, so that’s where we come in. Time to pack up all the clutter and hide the mess so they can finally get it sold. We re-arranged the furniture and re-staged the room, accenting the remaining furniture with some throw pillows. Paint was the order of the day in the bedroom as well, and we transformed it from blah to beautiful in a matter of minutes as well. Flowing white window treatments help show tings off even more. We turned the grimy bathroom back into a mini-spa with some candles, flowers and new shower curtains. But will all these great transformations convince a picky homebuyer to snatch this place up? Leslie and Patrick live in a loft in a converted shoe factory. While it’s a cool space, it’s unfortunately one of three lofts currently for sale in the building. The Otto’s happens to be the smallest of the batch as well! Not helping the situation is their collection of eclectic furniture and art from their travels. Billie raised her family in this cute three bedroom home with a huge yard. Now that the kids have left the house, she’s downsizing, but it’s not an easy sell. Roger comes to the rescue and adds new color and space to the place.

Josh and Michelle’s peaceful two-bedroom condo is tucked away in a quiet complex. It’s got hardwood floors, a swimming pool right outside the door, and it’s just a few minutes from downtown San Diego. With a playful dog and a baby on the way, they’re going to need more space, so why doesn’t anyone want to call this place home? Well, for starters, this unit isn’t exactly getting as much of that famous San Diego sunshine as it could be. And then there’s the attack screen door, pet odor, outdated walls, too much furniture and clutter. First thing to go, the oversized fish tank, that hadn’t seen any fish for a while! Roger’s got a beach theme in mind to counteract the dungeon feel. Soon, the walls get fresh coats of lively blue paint, with a soothing sandy color below the chair rail in the living room, and the furniture is pared down to a manageable assortment. Mike and Danielle are engaged and want to start their life together in a bigger house. Their current house is nicknamed “man cave” and for good reason. Go into the living room and you’d think you were in a bar… it’s covered with sports memorabilia from wall to wall… Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, New England Patriots… you name it. Oh and did we mention the walls are painted green and there’s a pool table right in the middle of the room! The family room is painted red and cluttered with a TV that doesn’t work, black leather recliners, personal photos, and even a live bird.
