Sheriff Mike Smith
Season 9Sheriff Mike Smith has 30 years of law enforcement experience. He began his law enforcement career with the Pleasant Grove Police Department in Utah. While employed for PGPD, he was fortunate to serve the citizens of Pleasant Grove as a patrol officer, motor officer, detective, internal affairs officer, and a member of a joint criminal apprehension team with the U.S. Marshal’s Office. Mike also served for 18 years on the Utah County Metro SWAT Team as a Team Leader and Forward Operational Commander. He rose through the ranks at PGPD and served as a sergeant, lieutenant, captain and in 2012 was appointed as the Chief of Police.
He attended Utah Valley University where he obtained an associate degree in Criminal Justice and a bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management Administration. In 2011, Mike was selected to attend the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia and graduated in the 246th session of the academy.
In 2018, Mike declared his intent and filed to run for Utah County Sheriff. In August of 2018, he was appointed by the Utah County Republican Party to fill a vacancy as sheriff due to the resignation of the current sheriff. Mike was elected in the 2018 general election and is currently serving his second 4-year term as the Utah County Sheriff. He currently serves as the President of the Utah Sheriffs’ Association.
Sheriff Smith is humbled by the honor of serving as sheriff. He is committed to working with all citizens, groups, and levels of government to keep Utah County a safe place to live and raise a family. He places a high emphasis on community involvement, volunteerism, and an overall team approach to public safety issues. One of his primary goals is ensuring that public safety is provided to all citizens of Utah County while protecting their dignity and upholding the Constitutional rights of all.
